Nu Brand Flexxx

Nu Brand Flexxx

Nu Brand Flexxx have a very unique sound and a look to match. You can spot their unusual dress sense a mile off. NBF style is like no other, the dress sense; retro, colourful and funky. Nu Brand Flexxx are notorious for their energy which can be seen in all their videos and shows. This was noticed by Dizzee Rascal who asked the crew to feature in his new #1 hit single with Calvin Harris Dance With Me. Nu Brand Flexxx is not just a group, it's a lifestyle.

EUT: How did you all meet?

Boyadee: Likle P met Saskilla at a festival in our borough and then he met me at another one a week later. Fate reared its beautiful head and three months later we met in the same college. The rest is history.

Saskilla: Nah it's not all history. Some helpful girl called Rashmi gave us tickets to this even called the Urban Music Seminar. We all appeared on some DVDs there. Those DVDs got the attention of Lethal Bizzle and he took us to radio. We got so big from that we couldn't go back the following year.

EUT: There are four main members. Who are the others?

Likle P: Hoodlem, Darq E Freaker and Brags.

EUT: What kind of music is on Rangoose?

Likle P: Grime, R&B, Funky House, R&G, Drum&Bass and a bit of Reggae.

EUT: Are there any collaborations?

Boyadee: Wiley produced a track; Big Narstie is on a track and a few other people from the scene. We kept most of it in house.

EUT: Do you think your music appeals to the mainstream?

Boyadee: Definitely. We made the Grime scene think we were involved but really we're using it as a platform to get to everybody else. We've had a lot of attention from mainstream artists already.

Saskilla: I wouldn't say we're bigger than Grime but we offer more than that and people who don't even know about Grime are getting involved in our movement. We're not doing what they're doing. We're broadening our horizons. We don't mind when people compare us to Outkast.

EUT: What do you think of Channel U? You've been very popular with them.

Saskilla: Channel U is the big mama. Everyone likes to say they don't like the videos but everyone watches it. Everyone wants to bash things but they still turn on the TV to channel 370. I want to watch MTV Base too but there are only so many times I can see a Ginuwine video. I don't walk down the street and see Ginuwine but I might see Bashy. Artists in America who had all the power and all the money like Nas, don't have it anymore because the newcomers are messing up the scene. Americans aren't selling out shows here anymore; another rave had to be let into a Busta Rhymes show in Luton because not enough people turned up. All the kids here care about Chipmunk and other UK artists nobody cares about Papoose Part 5. They want the leaked Wiley. There's only so much New York hip hop that people can listen to. We're from the UK, and the UK cares for the UK.

EUT: Do your personalities ever clash?

Likle P: All the time.

EUT: Who's the sensible one?

Boyadee: I wish there was one.

Likle P: I try to be sensible Monday to Wednesday.

EUT: Who gets all the girls?

Likle P: Saskilla, he's got a model jaw line.

EUT: Who's the messy one?

Likle P: Boyadee's the messy one.

Boyadee: I'm one of the cleanest!

Likle P: I'm not messy at all.

EUT: Are there any major label deals in the pipeline?

Saskilla: Everyone says there is label interest but they can't talk about it. I haven't heard anything about any labels but if there's any interest then they know where we are. We're still doing our thing and will be continuing to do so and there's no doubt about that.

EUT: What's next for NBF?

NBF: Rangoose is due for release right now, available in all good record stores and we'll be giving away a CD called Slow Grime at Christmas so watch out for that.
