XO MAN

XO MAN
XO Man the 6 ft 10 rapper from Mitcham has a personality to match his height; winning Hugo Urban Rules in December 2008 his charm won over the crowds, and the Sugababes.
Brimming with humour and a kooky fashion sense XO Man is releasing his double A-side debut singles "Microwave" and "Lady Dog" on April 13th. His style infuses so many genres it's hard to pin him into any one category, and his energetic performances are as memorable as his lyrics. He took time to talk to EUT. EUT: For those that have yet to get to know XO Man describe you and your style
I'm like a well-rounded shake and bake. My music caters for everyone, it's kinda like 'you never know what's coming 'round the corner music'.
EUT: When did it all start?
It all started around 2001/2002 with a house party and a microphone, I got a great response and it carried on from there!
EUT: How has life changed since winning Hugo Urban Rules in december 2008?
It was a great experience. Now my phone rings a little bit more!
EUT: This might be a given but what inspired you to write "Microwave"?
Well (laughs) my microwave stopped spinning! But it was also how life rotates when you're broke and knowing even then you can still get what you want.
EUT: What provides your inspriation?
Television, it's a reflection of life.
EUT: "Microwave" had a great response, when can we expect an album?
I would like to think by the end of 2009, I've wrote over 100 tracks and have an idea of what I want to be in there.
EUT: Who would you like to work with?
Arctic Monkeys, Beyonce, Al Greene and Damien Marley as they offer something a little bit different to my music.
EUT: There's been rumours about you planning a Caribbean cooking show, is it true?
Yes why not, I like cooking. I'm better looking than Ainsley Harriot and ruder than Gordon Ramsey!
EUT: Your tracks are full of humour and with a dash of controversy, "Lady Dog" certainly got people talking tell us about that.
"Lady Dog" was actually based on a true story, and anyone that's reacting to the controversy in the tracks, if the hat fits...
EUT: I cant help but notice your unique style and your height at 6"10, how do your outfits come about?
The trousers I make myself, other than that I like going to a good vintage shop in Fulham and shopping online for something different.
