Jay is upcoming talent straight outta Leeds, he's worked closely with T2 and is the cousin of Micah Richards, footballer for Manchester City. Jay's debut track, 'Hard Swagga', is out on 27 July, the filming of his debut video with acclaimed director Luke Biggins is the talk of the town. Jay took a moment to talk to us. EUT: Jay, has music always been your passion? How did you get started?
Yeah music has been my passion for years and always will be. i've been doing music since i was a child and i'v egrown up around it, and it will always be a massive influence in my life. I got started in music through my brother and all my older cousins and their friends, making tapes and jungle set with them.
EUT: What music did you grow up listening to and how has this influenced the music you make now?
Well I've grown up around all different kinds of music, including reggae, soul, rnb, dance, grime, jungle - everything. And yeah, i've been influenced by a lot it as well.
EUT: Tell us a bit about your debut track 'hard swagga'?
Well the track is about how i dress, with swagga and style. It's produced by my cousin G-DUBZ, and i basically just wanted to make a song that introduced and explained me, and make a statement that i have swagga.
EUT: How would you define your style or 'swagga'?
Dressed with nice clothes, matching garms, and a different style to most other people. It's an introduction to me as a new artist.
EUT: The acclaimed director Luke Biggins will be directing the music video for 'Hard Swagga', what ideas do you have for it?
Yeah luke is the director for the video and he has done a great job with it as well. I heard some of the ideas and also had the chance to put forward some ideas of my own, and hopefully it will be well received.
EUT: As a UK Hip Hop artist, what are your thoughts on the UK music scene? Are there any artists that stand out for you in particular?
I think the UK music scene is doing very well at the moment, and its artists like T2, chipmunk, kyla, stryder, n dubz, giggs, donaeo and more are doing a lot right now for the music scene here.
